The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 was released as a contemporary evolution of the 3700, in honor of the original watch’s 30th anniversary. Slightly larger than the inspirational model, it featured a somewhat bigger three-piece case, a central second hand, a sapphire caseback, and a refined bracelet. It quickly became legendary as an iconic luxury sports watch, known for its refined design, exceptional craftsmanship, and relative scarcity
As a popular model, it has seen several iterations, including the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-010-2015. Its blue dial became a signature look, integrated alongside other key features of the Nautilus 5711.
Precision Watches is proud to offer this exquisite pre-owned watch, selling for $129,995. Here’s what we noticed when we experienced this superior timepiece firsthand.
Patck Philippe Blue Dial Review
The watch’s compact geometry and meticulous finishing immediately stand out. The following sections will provide a clearer explanation of what to expect regarding its design and construction.
Appearance
This watch’s appearance is truly exceptional. One of its primary design points is the dichotomy of shapes and finishes. Take, for example, the satin-finished, rounded bezel top, which integrates with a polygonal shape around the bezel, creating a softened geometric appearance.
The dial is also astonishing, featuring a blue metallic face with a radiant fade, showing silvery blue in the center that darkens to an almost black navy blue at the edges. The hands and indices are white gold, detailed with red, standing out nicely against the darker face. With just a date window and sweeping second hands, the look is minimalist but undeniably elegant.
The high attention to detail and craftsmanship is what sets this watch apart and earns it a high price point- but it doesn’t stop at the case.
The Fit
Although this is a larger watch, with a 40mm case, it’s remarkably compact. At 8.6 mm thick, it can fit on a wrist as small as 13.5 cm. No doubt, it slips nicely under suits and dress shirts.
Despite its thin, delicate appearance, the watch feels solid on the wrist. As a model that’s not too top-heavy, it doesn’t move around much, a comfort element supported by its well-designed bracelet.
The Bracelet
The integrated bracelet flows seamlessly from the dial. It is highly polished with hand-finished bevels. The large polished centers are surrounded by larger flanking and satin-finished edges. Gaps on the underside, preventing pinching while the pin snaps help the watch stay in place.
It is fastened with a double-fold clasp, keeping the bracelet tight but not uncomfortably so. Removable links, a signature PP feature, allow the bracelet to fit all wrist sizes.
Movement and Caseback
Turning the watch over, you find a manually-finished exhibition sapphire display caseback, providing an unobstructed view of the movement’s finishing, rotors, and components, hallmarks of the watch brand’s craftsmanship, which work silently under the PP seal’s careful oversight.
The screw-down crown controls the seconds, ensuring optimal accuracy. And indeed, the watch guarantees no worse than minus 3 plus 2 seconds per day. The unidirectional bezel provides key safety benefits for divers, nicely complementing the 120m of water resistance.
The 35–45-hour power reserve is a functional touch.
History of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-010
Patek Philippe introduced the Nautilus 5711/1A-010 to modernize the Nautilus. The newer model was updated with contemporary proportions, central seconds, and improved water resistance, while the design language remained intact. It was positioned alongside AP’s Royal Oak as a must-have luxury sports watch, appealing to a younger, more casual clientele.
The 5711/1A-010 stood out as one of its core steel models. Features such as an integrated stainless-steel bracelet and a gradient dial set it apart. It soon became the classic 5711 everyone thinks of when they hear the model mentioned. For a closer look at why the Nautilus design has become so admired, see our feature on the beauty of the Patek Philippe Nautilus.
Unfortunately, the model’s popularity was also part of why it had to end. By the late 2010s, secondary prices were far above retail as customers waited several years to own the watch. Worst of all, the 5711 was overshadowing other PP models.
In 2021, Patek publicly announced the 5711’s phase-out, saying he didn’t want a single steel sports watch to define the brand. However, you can still find models in stock, such as the one we currently have in our collection.

FAQs
1. What makes the 2015 production 5711 special?
By 2015, the 5711 featured a fully matured design, with no early-run quirks. It offered modern automatic movement and widespread recognition. However, it predated the 2018 price explosion. For many collectors, it represented the model’s ‘sweet spot’.
2. What movement powers the 5711/1A-101?
The 2015 model is powered by the PP Caliber 324 S C automatic movement, featuring central seconds and date, a 28,800 vph (4 Hz) frequency, a 35-45 hour power reserve, a 21K or 22K gold rotor, and high-end finishing through a sapphire back.
3. Does the watch have hacking seconds?
Earlier 5711s with Cal. 324 S C do not feature hacking seconds, i.e., the second hands will not stop when you pull the crown. That feature was integrated with the updated 26-330 S C caliber movement. On the 2015 piece, you can set time precisely using the back-pressure crown, but not by fully stopping the seconds.
4. Is the 5711/1A/010 a good everyday watch?
Yes, functionally, the watch is comfortable and slim, versatile for casual or business wear, highly water-resistant, well-engineered, legible, and convenient, making it ideal for everyday wear. However, as a valuable collector’s item, some owners may reserve it for special occasions.
