New Tudor Ranger 36mm Review: Dune White Dial Hands-On (Real Photos & First Impressions)

New Tudor Ranger 36mm Review: Dune White Dial Hands-On (Real Photos & First Impressions)

The Tudor Ranger is a well-loved watch for its vintage-inspired looks and optimal functionality. As an explorer’s field watch, it is highly legible and reliable. First released in 1960, it has undergone several iterations, with the latest model debuting just days ago, in November 2025.

The new model, released just in time for Dubai week, is part of the broader wave of new Tudor watch releases for 2025 and features two notable updates: a dune-white dial and a 36mm case option. (Note, the watch is also available in 36mm black.)

Precision Watches is fortunate enough to have these new luxury watches in our collection— and as a long-trusted Official Tudor retailer, we were among the first to go hands-on with the new Ranger.

And for a closer look at the new Tudor Ranger’s proportions and wrist presence, check out our hands-on Instagram video showcasing both the dune-white and black dial versions.

Tudor Ranger Review

While the Ranger has long lived in the shadow of Tudor’s superstar Black Bay line, recent models like the Black Bay Ceramic show the brand’s expanding identity beyond traditional tool watches. But now the dune-white version is having its moment, accompanied by a smaller case size. Beyond that, the watch still bears its signature traits as a simple, rugged watch inspired by the Rolex Explorer 1016.

The Fit

Putting the watch on, we found that it’s less top-heavy than previous models due to its smaller case. Pared down from the previous 12mm to 11mm, with a 19mm lug width reminiscent of vintage designs, it fits nicely under suits and dress shirts.

There was some concern that the smaller case would not be as flattering on larger wrists. But trying it on around the showroom, we found it had a solid appearance on all wrist sizes. However, some with larger wrists still preferred the bigger case.

Overall Appearance

The watch stays true to many classic Ranger features. It has a matte dial, Arabic numerals, a 12-3-6-9 layout, an arrow-shaped hour hand, and a red second-hand highlight. Other familiar characteristics include a satin-brushed finish, a screw-down crown, a domed sapphire, and 100 meters of water resistance.

Although the face is described as dune-white, it has a more ivory or sand-toned appearance. The lighter color may make the watch more legible for some, but others note it is not as luminous as the black face. All the same, it is filled with Tudor’s signature Super Luminova Grade A for optimal read-in-the-dark capabilities.

The Bracelet

Another major update- the newly released Tudor no longer offers a leather bracelet option. However, the steel strap, three-link bracelet is still available. It features Tudor’s proprietary T-fit clasp, which offers one-step micro-adjustments and makes the watch easy to put on and take off.

Fabric straps are also available for sportier occasions and a more flexible fit.

Movement and Battery

The watch also features updated MT 5400 movement, a variation from the MT 5402 movement in previous watches. But don’t worry, both movements are essentially identical in performance. Likely, it was switched out to adjust to the smaller case.

It also features a 70-hour power reserve and a silicon coil.

The Price

One final thing to note is the price point. Priced under $4,000, it is a surprisingly affordable luxury watch, with pricing similar to the 39 mm version.

Tudor Ranger History

If you are interested in the Tudor Ranger, you may want to find out about its history.

The Ranger name dates back to 1929, when Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex and Tudor, trademarked the name just three years after registering the Tudor company. However, he never assigned a specific watch to the name. Instead, it was used to describe watches with a more adventurous spirit.

For example, Tudor equipped expedition explorers participating in the British North Greenland Expedition (BNGE) with non-modified Oyster Prince 7809 watches that performed flawlessly under harsh conditions. Although these watches were never inscribed with the Ranger name, they defined the character of future Rangers.

The Tudor Ranger was finally introduced in the early 1960s and made it into the watch company’s catalogue in 1969. Though early versions of the modern field watch featured the 34mm case, they were refashioned over time. A 41mm model was released in 2014, followed by a 39mm version in 2014, and a 36mm version in 2022 (which was accompanied by a 39mm model).

About Tudor Watch Company

Tudor is a Swiss watch brand founded by Hans Wilsdorf, the creator of Rolex, and officially registered in 1929. The company’s goal was to develop high-quality watches at a more accessible price point. It often substitutes precious, exclusive materials with more affordable generic options, but never sacrifices its top-tier manufacturing.
