Hamilton Murph Blue Dial: The New Khaki Field 38mm

Short on Time

Hamilton has added a new blue dial to the Khaki Field Murph 38mm, the watch inspired by Interstellar. The gradient dial fades from a luminous blue center to black at the edges, a nod to the ionized gases and depth of interstellar space, with a grained, stardust-like texture beneath the same cathedral hands and Arabic numerals the Murph has always used. It comes on either a three-row steel bracelet (ref. H70405140) or a black crocodile-embossed leather strap (ref. H70405740), both running Hamilton’s H-10 automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve. Pricing starts at $995 on leather and $1,045 on the bracelet.

Hamilton’s Khaki Field Murph 38mm gets a new dial color, and this one leans further into the watch’s film origins than the black or white versions that came before it. The new blue dial uses a gradient effect, fading from a bright, luminous blue at the center to black around the edges, meant to evoke the ionized gases and depth of interstellar space rather than a straightforward color swap.

This guide covers what is new about this dial, the two strap options Hamilton offers it on, the movement inside, and where it fits if you already know the rest of the current Murph lineup.

A Dial Built Around the Film’s Own Imagery

The gradient blue-to-black dial carries a grained, stardust-inspired texture that adds real depth under different lighting, a step beyond a flat color change. The rest of the dial stays familiar. Cathedral-shaped hour and minute hands and applied Arabic numerals, both filled with beige Super-LumiNova, carry over from every other current Murph, and slightly domed numerals keep the dial’s signature look intact.

The case itself is unchanged from the rest of the 38mm Murph lineup. It measures 38mm in diameter, 44.7mm lug-to-lug, and 11.1mm thick, with curved lugs and a polished bezel set against a brushed case for contrast. An AR-coated sapphire crystal sits over the dial, and a sapphire display caseback shows off the movement.

Bracelet or Leather

Hamilton offers this dial on two configurations. The Hamilton Murph bracelet version (ref. H70405140) comes on a three-row, 20mm stainless steel bracelet with a folding push-button clasp and Hamilton’s Easy Click quick-release system, priced at $1,045. The Hamilton Murph leather strap version (ref. H70405740) comes on a black leather strap embossed with a crocodile pattern, closed with a steel pin buckle, also using the Easy Click system, priced at $995.

Both options use the same case and dial, so the choice comes down entirely to how you want to wear it day to day, and Easy Click means switching between a bracelet and a strap later does not require a trip to a watchmaker.

The Movement

Every current Murph runs Hamilton’s H-10 automatic movement, and this reference is no exception. It delivers an 80-hour power reserve at 21,600 vibrations per hour, with 25 jewels and a Nivachron hairspring for added resistance to magnetic fields, an upgrade over a standard hairspring that many watches at this price do not offer. The movement operates through an oversized push-pull crown at 3 o’clock rather than a screw-down design, though water resistance still holds at a genuinely useful 100 meters.

How This Fits the Current Murph Lineup

This blue dial joins the black and white dial options already available on the 38mm Murph, without replacing either. If you want the full picture of every current Murph configuration, including the 42mm original and the bracelet and Bundle options, our Hamilton Murph guide covers the complete current lineup and where each version fits.
