Used Panerai Watches at Precision Watches

Precision Watches carries used Panerai watches at our Lower Gwynedd showroom near Philadelphia. Every pre-owned Panerai we sell is inspected and, where needed, serviced by our in-house watchmakers before it is listed, and each one is backed by our two-year warranty. We buy, sell, and trade Panerai across its major collections.

Panerai’s Place in Watchmaking

Few watch brands have an identity as instantly recognisable as Panerai. The Florentine company’s watchmaking dates to 1860, but its defining moment came in 1936, when it built the Radiomir for the frogman commandos of the Royal Italian Navy: a large cushion-shaped case, a minimalist high-contrast dial, and a luminous compound bright enough to read underwater in the dark. Those military tool watches, made in secrecy for decades, are the foundation of everything Panerai makes today.

The brand began selling to the public in 1993, and its profile grew sharply after a Luminor appeared on Sylvester Stallone’s wrist in the 1996 film Daylight. Since then Panerai has developed its own in-house movements while keeping the oversized cases, sandwich dials, and unmistakable crown-guard design that make it unlike anything else on the wrist.

Why Buy a Used Panerai?

Panerai has a passionate collector following, and the secondary market is central to how that community operates. The brand’s PAM reference system covers thousands of variations, many produced in limited numbers, and discontinued references, special dial and case materials like bronze, and boutique or limited editions are all found used and nowhere else.

Panerai is also a brand where buying used is genuinely rewarding rather than simply a discount. Certain discontinued and limited references have appreciated, and the sheer breadth of the back catalogue means the pre-owned market is where most collectors find the specific PAM they want. Buying from a dealer with watchmakers on site means the movement, crown-guard mechanism, and case have all been verified before the watch reaches you.

Used Panerai Collections

Luminor : The collection built around the patented crown-protecting bridge introduced in 1950, and the watch most people picture when they think of Panerai. It spans the Luminor Base, Luminor Marina with its small seconds, and the Luminor GMT, typically in 44mm cushion cases.

Radiomir : The oldest design, tracing directly to the 1936 original, with a cushion case, wire lugs, and no crown guard. The most vintage and elegant Panerai line.

Submersible : The dedicated dive collection, with a rotating bezel, high water resistance, and a more overtly sporty, tool-focused character.

Luminor Due : The slimmer, dressier interpretation of the Luminor, with a thinner case that wears more easily under a cuff while keeping the signature design.

Used Panerai Prices

Used Panerai prices depend on collection, generation, size, and materials. Steel Luminor and Radiomir references generally begin in the mid four figures, making them among the more attainable ways into the brand. Submersible, GMT, and larger complicated references run higher, and bronze, precious metal, and limited editions higher still. Sought-after discontinued and military-provenance references are priced by condition and rarity.

Box, papers, and overall condition all affect value. Our inventory changes regularly, so contact us if you are looking for a specific PAM reference or collection.

Authenticated and Serviced In-House

Panerai is a heavily counterfeited brand, and its crown-guard mechanism, sandwich dial construction, and case proportions all require trained assessment. Every used Panerai we sell is examined by our on-site watchmakers, who verify the movement, check the PAM reference and serial numbers, assess the crown-guard operation and dial depth, and test water resistance where applicable. Cases are refinished where appropriate. Every used Panerai carries our two-year warranty, with service handled directly by our own watchmakers.

Sell or Trade Your Panerai

We buy used Panerai watches outright and accept trades toward anything in our showroom. Our team evaluates each watch on its reference, condition, and current market demand. Start with our Sell Your Watch page or bring the watch into the store for an evaluation in person.

FAQ

How much does a used Panerai watch cost?

Used Panerai prices span a wide range. Steel Luminor and Radiomir references generally start in the mid four figures, while Submersible, GMT, bronze, precious metal, and limited-edition references cost more. Condition, collection, and original box and papers all affect the final price.

What is the difference between the Luminor and the Radiomir?

Both share Panerai’s cushion-shaped case and minimalist dial, but the key difference is the crown. The Luminor has the patented crown-protecting bridge, a lever-operated guard that locks the crown down, introduced in 1950. The Radiomir, based on the 1936 original, has no crown guard and uses thin wire lugs for a cleaner, more vintage look. The Luminor is the sportier, more recognisable design; the Radiomir is the more classical.

What does PAM mean on a Panerai?

PAM is the reference prefix Panerai uses to identify its models, short for Panerai. Each variation has its own PAM number, such as PAM00111 or PAM00312, which specifies the exact case, dial, movement, and size. Collectors typically refer to Panerai watches by their PAM number rather than a model name alone.

Are Panerai watches a good investment?

Panerai holds its value reasonably within its segment, and certain discontinued, bronze, and limited-edition references with military provenance have appreciated meaningfully. Common steel references perform more modestly. As with any watch, the specific PAM reference, condition, and completeness matter more than the brand name alone, so no watch should be bought purely as an investment.

What size are Panerai watches?

Panerai is known for large cases, with the signature Luminor and Radiomir typically at 44mm and the historic models at 47mm. The brand has since added more wearable sizes, including 42mm and 38mm options in the Luminor Due line. Because the cushion case wears large, trying one on is worthwhile, and you can schedule a showroom visit to compare sizes.

Do your used Panerai watches come with a warranty?

Yes. All pre-owned watches from Precision Watches include our two-year international warranty covering mechanical defects, with warranty work handled by our on-site service center.

Can I trade my current watch toward a used Panerai?

Yes. We accept trade-ins toward any watch in our inventory. Our team evaluates the brand, condition, and current market demand for your watch, then applies the agreed value to your purchase.

Where can I see used Panerai watches near Philadelphia?

Our showroom is in Lower Gwynedd, PA, roughly 30 minutes north of Philadelphia. We are open Monday through Saturday, and you can schedule an appointment to view watches in person.
