Rolex and Precision Watches History
Precision Watches has built its name on a single conviction passed down through three generations. A fine timepiece deserves the hands of someone who understands it. That belief, carried from a workshop in Kiev to a flagship in Lower Gwynedd, is what eventually brought Rolex to our family.
It is with deep pride that we serve as an Official Rolex Jeweler, an Authorized Rolex Service Center, and a Rolex Certified Pre-Owned dealer. Three privileges earned over decades of dedication to the craft.
1946. A CRAFT BEGINS
At the age of 21, Michael Murat trained in the art of watchmaking in Kiev, Ukraine. What began as an apprenticeship became a lifetime devoted to the precision and patience the trade demands. It was a foundation that would one day cross an ocean and define a family.
1979. THE NEXT GENERATION
Following in his father’s footsteps, Gary Murat was trained in watchmaking under a master craftsman. The skills passed from father to son carried forward not only a profession, but a standard.
1991. PRECISION IS BORN
Shortly after immigrating to America, Michael and Gary opened the doors of Precision Watch and Clock Repair. The modest 500-square-foot workshop was dedicated entirely to fine timepiece service, built on the same principles Michael had practiced in Kiev decades earlier.
2001. A THIRD GENERATION
The third generation joined the family business as Roman Murat came aboard, bringing a new energy to the workshop while honoring the craftsmanship his grandfather and father had instilled.
2007. THE FIRST RETAIL HOME
Gary and Roman opened Precision’s first retail location at The Shoppes at the Buck, a 1,200-square-foot boutique and repair shop. For the first time, the family’s expertise was paired with a curated retail experience, welcoming clients into a space that reflected the care behind every timepiece they handled.
2011. A NEW CHAPTER AT VALLEY SQUARE
Outgrowing its original location, Precision expanded to a new 3,000-square-foot store at Valley Square, a newly developed lifestyle center. The larger showroom signaled the family’s growing reputation throughout the region.
2014. THE PRIVILEGE OF THE CROWN
At the age of 30, Roman earned the privilege of becoming an Official Rolex Jeweler at the Willow Grove Mall location. It was a defining moment for the family. The recognition of a heritage built on precision watchmaking, and the beginning of a partnership with the brand that has long set the global standard for excellence.
2024. PRECISION TODAY
Just weeks before the launch of Precision’s new flagship store, the Murat family welcomed their first son, Michael, named in honor of Roman’s grandfather. The watchmaker whose journey began in Kiev nearly eight decades earlier. The flagship at 1612 N. Bethlehem Pike stands as the fullest expression of the family’s vision – a center for in-house service, a partnership with Rolex, and a home for collections such as the Submariner, Datejust, Day-Date, and Oyster Perpetual. All of which have been part of the Precision experience across generations of clients, each representing a distinct chapter in Rolex’s century-long pursuit of horological excellence.
