The Cartier Roadster Returns
The Roadster is one of Cartier’s more unexpected designs. Introduced in 2002, it drew inspiration from mid-century sports cars, combining a tonneau-shaped case with curved flanks, a conical crown, a speedometer-inspired dial and a distinctive date magnifier reminiscent of a headlight. Cartier discontinued the collection in 2012, leaving the Roadster absent from the Maison’s contemporary collection for approximately 14 years.
At Watches and Wonders 2026, Cartier introduced a redesigned generation of the Roadster. Rather than reproducing the original watch exactly, Cartier refined its proportions, finishes and ergonomics. The recessed screws previously positioned at the ends of the lugs have been replaced by four rivet-like details on the bezel, while the crown is more closely integrated into the case. The new generation is also powered by Cartier Manufacture automatic movements.
Roadster Sizes and Specifications
The 2026 Cartier Roadster is offered in two sizes, both featuring the collection’s characteristic tonneau-shaped case and automotive-inspired details.
Roadster Large: The Large measures approximately 47.2 × 38.7 mm and 10.06 mm thick. It is powered by the Cartier Manufacture 1847 MC automatic movement, which provides approximately 42 hours of power reserve.
Roadster Medium: The Medium measures approximately 42.5 × 34.92 mm and 9.7 mm thick. It is powered by the Cartier Manufacture 1899 MC automatic movement, which provides approximately 39 hours of power reserve.
Both sizes display the hours, minutes, central seconds and date and are water-resistant to 10 bar, or approximately 100 meters. The collection includes models in stainless steel, steel and 18-karat yellow gold, and solid 18-karat yellow gold. The redesigned bracelets and accompanying straps use Cartier’s QuickSwitch interchangeable system.
Cartier Roadster Price
As a newly revived collection, the Roadster sits within Cartier’s contemporary sport-watch pricing, with the steel Medium and Large as the entry points, the two-tone reference above that, and the solid 18-karat gold version at the top of the range. As an Authorized Cartier Watch Dealer, we can confirm current pricing and availability across the collection.

Does Cartier still make the Roadster watch?
Yes. Cartier discontinued the original Roadster in 2012, but revived the collection at Watches and Wonders 2026 after a fourteen-year absence. The current Roadster is offered in Large and Medium sizes with new in-house automatic movements and updated proportions. As an Authorized Cartier Watch Dealer, we carry the current Roadster collection.
How much does a Cartier Roadster cost?
The Roadster’s pricing spans steel, two-tone, and solid 18-karat gold. Steel Medium and Large references are the entry point to the collection, the two-tone reference sits above that, and the solid gold version is at the top of the range. As an Authorized Cartier Watch Retailer, we can confirm current pricing on any configuration.
What is the difference between the Roadster Large and Medium?
The Large measures 38.8mm and the Medium 34.9mm, with both cases sharing a similar thickness of about 10mm. The Large uses the Calibre 1847 MC movement and the Medium the Calibre 1899 MC, both in-house automatic calibers. The choice comes down to wrist size and how much presence you want, and trying both on is the best way to decide.
Is the new Cartier Roadster the same as the original?
Not exactly. The new Roadster keeps the tonneau-shaped case and automotive design language that defined the original 2002 to 2012 collection, but the proportions and ergonomics have been reworked, the case rivets moved from the lugs to the bezel, and the movements are now Cartier’s own in-house calibers rather than the ETA-based movements used previously. It is best understood as a thoughtful modern reinterpretation rather than a direct reissue.
Does the Cartier Roadster have a chronograph?
The 2026 Roadster launched as a three-hand, date-only collection in Large and Medium sizes. The original 2001 to 2012 generation did include chronograph and GMT versions, particularly in the larger XL case, though these are not currently part of the revived lineup. As an Authorized Cartier Watch Retailer, we can confirm the latest configurations available.
