The Omega Speedmaster Collection
The Omega Speedmaster is one of the most historically significant watches ever made. Introduced in 1957 as a motorsport chronograph, it was qualified by NASA for spaceflight and, in 1969, became the first watch worn on the moon. That legacy sits at the heart of the modern collection, which pairs the faithful Moonwatch with a wide range of contemporary interpretations in ceramic, precious metals, and modern movements. Whether you want the exact watch that defines the collection or a modern chronograph with the Speedmaster’s DNA, there is a model built for it.
Speedmaster Models
Moonwatch Professional : The 42mm hand-wound chronograph that went to the moon, powered by the Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. This is the definitive Speedmaster, offered with either a hesalite or a sapphire crystal, and the model most buyers mean by “Speedmaster.”
Speedmaster ’57 : A heritage model at 40.5mm referencing the 1957 original, with broad arrow hands, a symmetrical case, and a Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement. The most refined of the current Speedmasters.
Speedmaster Chronoscope : A modern chronograph that revives vintage tachymeter, telemeter, and pulsometer scales in a striking snail-track dial layout, available in steel and gold.
Dark Side of the Moon : The 44.25mm case machined from a single block of black ceramic, the collection’s boldest contemporary interpretation, across several dial and colour variations.
Speedmaster Moonphase and Racing : The Moonphase adds a Master Chronometer moon-phase complication, while the Racing line brings motorsport-inspired dials and a more contemporary look to the chronograph.
Speedmaster 38mm : A smaller, more contemporary Speedmaster in a 38mm case, with a range of dial colours and diamond options, suited to smaller wrists.
Omega Speedmaster Price
The Omega Speedmaster spans a wide range of price points. The steel Moonwatch Professional is the entry to the collection, with the hesalite-crystal version at the accessible end and the sapphire-crystal version at a modest premium. The Speedmaster ’57, Chronoscope, and Racing references sit above that, the ceramic Dark Side of the Moon higher still, and precious metal, Moonshine Gold, and complicated references such as the Chrono Chime at the top of the range. As an Authorized Omega Dealer, we can walk you through current pricing across the collection and help you find the right configuration in person.
Why Buy From an Authorized Omega Dealer?
Buying from an Authorized Omega Dealer means your watch is brand-new, guaranteed authentic, and covered by Omega’s full manufacturer warranty from the day of purchase. You see and try the watch before you buy, with guidance from specialists who know the collection, and our on-site watchmakers support the watch for as long as you own it. It is the most straightforward and secure way to buy a current Speedmaster.

How much does an Omega Speedmaster cost?
The Speedmaster spans a wide range. The steel Moonwatch Professional is the entry point, with the hesalite version at the accessible end and the sapphire version at a modest premium. The Speedmaster ’57, Chronoscope, and Racing references sit above that, the ceramic Dark Side of the Moon higher, and precious metal and complicated references at the top of the range. As an Authorized Omega Dealer, we can provide current pricing on any configuration.
What is the difference between the Speedmaster and the Moonwatch?
They are the same watch. “Moonwatch” is the name for the Speedmaster Professional, the 42mm hand-wound chronograph NASA qualified for spaceflight and the model worn on the moon. Omega uses “Moonwatch” as the official name for the Professional today. The wider Speedmaster collection includes other models, but the Moonwatch refers specifically to the space-flown Professional.
Should I choose a hesalite or sapphire Moonwatch?
Both are correct, and the choice comes down to priorities. Hesalite is the acrylic crystal NASA originally approved, giving the dial a warm vintage look, and it can be polished if scratched. Sapphire is scratch-resistant and paired with a display caseback that shows the Calibre 3861 movement, at a modest premium. Purists often choose hesalite for historical accuracy, while sapphire suits buyers who want durability and a view of the movement. Trying both is worthwhile.
What movement is in the current Speedmaster Moonwatch?
The current Moonwatch Professional uses the Omega Calibre 3861, a hand-wound Master Chronometer movement that is a modern, certified evolution of the Calibre 321 worn on the moon. It adds a Co-Axial escapement, a silicon balance spring, and resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, all verified by the independent Swiss metrology institute METAS.
Is the MoonSwatch the same as an Omega Speedmaster?
No. The Bioceramic MoonSwatch is a separate Omega and Swatch collaboration made from bioceramic with a quartz movement, sold through Swatch at a much lower price. The Omega Speedmaster is a mechanical Swiss chronograph in steel or precious metals. They share design cues, but they are different products, and as an Authorized Omega Dealer we carry the Omega Speedmaster collection.
Is Precision Watches an authorized Omega dealer?
Yes. Precision Watches is an Authorized Omega Dealer, which means every Omega we sell is brand-new, guaranteed authentic, and covered by Omega’s full manufacturer warranty. Our on-site watchmakers also service Omega watches, so we support your timepiece well beyond the sale.
