Launched in 2012 and built in lightweight titanium rather than steel, it was designed from the outset as a serious tool rather than a vintage-inspired sport watch, with high water resistance, a helium escape valve, and a self-adjusting spring-loaded bracelet clasp that compensates for a wetsuit or changes in wrist size. Since 2015 the collection has been powered by Tudor’s own in-house movements, all COSC chronometer-certified with a 70-hour power reserve.

Pelagos Models
Pelagos : The standard 42mm titanium diver, rated to 500 metres with a helium escape valve, offered in blue or black. The Pelagos LHD variant places the crown at 9 o’clock, a nod to a historic 1981 special edition.
Pelagos 39 : A more compact 39mm titanium case for narrower wrists, with a subtly finished sunburst dial and bezel. Rated to 200 metres without a helium valve, and powered by a simpler, date-free movement.
Pelagos Ultra : The collection’s deepest-rated model, in a 43mm case with a helium escape valve for extended saturation diving, representing the most technically capable Pelagos.
Pelagos FXD : Developed in partnership with the French Navy’s combat diving units, the FXD strips the format down to its essentials: no date, no dial flange, a fixed-strap bar design in place of a bracelet, and either the original bidirectional countdown bezel with Marine Nationale emblem or a standard unidirectional bezel. The FXD has since expanded into GMT and carbon-fibre chronograph versions.

The Pelagos is built entirely around modern dive performance, in lightweight titanium, with higher water resistance and a self-adjusting bracelet clasp designed for real underwater use. If you want vintage character, the Black Bay is the choice; if you want a purpose-built dive tool, the Pelagos is.
What is the Tudor Pelagos FXD?
The FXD is a stripped-down version of the Pelagos developed in partnership with French Navy combat diving units. It removes the date and dial flange for maximum legibility, uses a fixed-bar strap system in place of a bracelet, and originally came only in Marine Nationale navy blue with a countdown bezel. It has since grown to include a black dial version, a GMT, and a carbon-fibre chronograph.
Does the Tudor Pelagos have a helium escape valve?
Most Pelagos models do. The standard 42mm Pelagos and the Pelagos Ultra both include a helium escape valve for extended saturation diving. The more compact Pelagos 39 and the Pelagos FXD do not include one, since both are built to shallower depth requirements where it is unnecessary.
