Precision Watches carries used IWC watches at our Lower Gwynedd showroom near Philadelphia. Every pre-owned IWC we sell is inspected and, where needed, serviced by our in-house watchmakers before it is listed, and each one is backed by our two-year warranty. We buy, sell, and trade IWC across all of its major collections.

IWC’s Place in Watchmaking

IWC has an unusual origin for a Swiss watchmaker. The International Watch Company was founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American engineer who set out to pair Swiss craftsmanship with modern manufacturing, and settled in Schaffhausen in the German-speaking part of Switzerland rather than the traditional French watchmaking valleys. That engineering-first identity still defines the brand.

The result is a design language often described as form following function: clean, technical, and restrained, with an emphasis on legibility and mechanical substance over ornament. IWC produces its own in-house movements, pioneered the Pellaton automatic winding system, and was an early adopter of titanium, ceramic, and its own Ceratanium material. Its motto, Probus Scafusia, translates roughly as solid, well-made craftsmanship from Schaffhausen.

Why Buy a Used IWC?

The secondary market is where IWC’s depth becomes accessible. Discontinued Pilot’s Watch generations, earlier Portugieser and Portofino references, retired Aquatimer and Ingenieur models, limited editions, and dial colours no longer in production are all found used and nowhere else. IWC revises its collections steadily, so a specific reference or size often lives only on the pre-owned market.

IWC also represents strong value used. These are serious in-house movements and substantial cases, and buying pre-owned brings a genuine haute-horlogerie-adjacent brand within closer reach. Buying from a dealer with watchmakers on site means the movement, case, and complications have all been verified before the watch reaches you.

Used IWC Collections

Pilot’s Watch. IWC’s signature line, rooted in the aviation instruments it has made since the 1930s. Known for large legible dials, oversized crowns, and the Big Pilot and Top Gun families, it is the collection most associated with the brand.

Portugieser. Born in 1939 from a request for a wristwatch with pocket-watch precision, the Portugieser is defined by its large dial, slim bezel, and railway-track minute scale. IWC’s most elegant and recognisable dress-sport line.

Portofino. The classically styled dress collection, with clean dials and slim cases inspired by the Lépine pocket watch, and the most understated IWC.

Aquatimer. The dive line, valued by divers for decades, with robust construction and IWC’s internal-external rotating bezel system.

Ingenieur. The engineering-focused sports watch, first launched in 1955 with anti-magnetic protection, and known today for its integrated-bracelet design.

Da Vinci. The collection where IWC expresses its more decorative and complicated watchmaking, including chronographs and perpetual calendars.

Used IWC Prices

Used IWC prices span a wide range. Steel Pilot’s Watch and Portofino references generally begin in the low four figures, making them among the more accessible ways into the brand. Portugieser, chronograph, and larger complicated references run higher, and precious metal, perpetual calendar, and limited editions higher still. Discontinued and collectible references are priced by condition and rarity.

Authenticated and Serviced In-House

Every used IWC we sell passes through our on-site watchmakers before it is listed. That includes movement inspection and timing verification, assessment of the case, dial, and any complications, water resistance testing where applicable, and verification of reference and serial numbers. Cases and bracelets are refinished where appropriate. Because IWC uses in-house movements and its own case materials, this hands-on verification matters, and every used IWC carries our two-year warranty.
